More Than 50% of Residents Leave Loudoun For Healthcare Now, Strong Growth is Projected in Next 10 Years
Loudoun County was served well for decades by Loudoun Hospital when our population was small. However, dramatic recent population growth has changed that and today more than 50% of Loudoun residents go outside of the county for healthcare. According to the Weldon Cooper Center, Loudoun County had more than 275,000 residents as of 2007 up from 169,000 in 2000 and just over 86,000 in 1990. The population of Loudoun is projected to swell to more than 380,000 within 10 years.
Today Loudoun has less hospital beds and physicians per thousand residents than any other county in Northern Virginia. Loudoun also lacks many specialists and residents must travel long distances often in bad traffic to visit their doctor.
