Why we need BRMC Now

The Broadlands Regional Medical Center is the best type of development for this property allowing the community to have a say in how it is developed to minimize its impact. This property is zoned commercial and can have many uses by-right. One scenario would be a by-right office park. Click here to compare a possible by-right office park development with BRMC.

Loudoun County has been in the top 3 counties in growth and one of the most affluent counties for many years.  We have built approximately 20 new schools to accommodate this growth.  We need the supporting structures as well.  BRMC will provide much needed hospital beds and draw more specialists to the area.  Our county deserves more healthcare options and the improvements that will come from competition.

HCA/BRMC has proffered $11 million dollars to widen Belmont Ridge Road from Truro Parish Rd. down to Briar Woods High School.  As of now, the state and county have NO funding for the widening of Belmont Ridge Road.  This road is well traveled by our teenagers and is quite dangerous due to no shoulders and poor visibility.  Our solution for the widening of this road is by HCA/BRMC.

BRMC will bring approximately 600 new jobs to this area.

HCA has been very concious of the Broadlands environmental concerns.  They have dedicated the 3.8 acres of their property closest to homes for community use to be determined by the HOA.  They have included a wide tree buffer along Broadlands Boulevard and Belmont Ridge Road, and they have committed to certifying the property as part of our community’s National Wildlife Habitat Program.

After listening to community concerns, HCA/BRMC has removed the originally proposed adult mental health care facility, removed a helipad, and received VDOT approval to move the emergency entrance to Belmont Ridge Road.  (Please note that ambulances generally do NOT activate their sirens near neighborhoods or when transporting to the hospital).

BRMC already has obtained the state required Certificate of Public Need (COPN) for the hospital.  This is a rigorous process, which takes years to obtain.  The COPN cannot be transferred from one location to another.  Therefore, when HCA and/or INOVA decide to apply for a COPN for their properties located off of rte. 50, the process will take approximately 7 - 9 years (3 - 5 for application and COPN approval, 1 for county approvals/permits, and 3 to build).  Neither HCA nor INOVA have started this process and will not do so until the BRMC zoning special exception application is resolved.  Therefore, we are looking at least a decade for a new hospital to be built on rte. 50.  With our population continuing to grow rapidly, we cannot afford to wait that long for another hospital.

The BRMC location is the best for Loudoun County as a whole.  It is located on the county’s only major freeway, and it is centrally located to the area’s largest current and projected population as well as the area’s highest emergency call volume.

HCA/BRMC has partnered with Children’s National Medical Center to provide top quality pediatric services.  The Broadlands is a very family oriented neighborhood.  Won’t it be wonderful to have these services so close by?

Since HCA’s announcement of their intent to build BRMC, INOVA merged with Loudoun Hospital bringing much needed improvements in medical care.  INOVA has pledged to invest a total of $200 million for improvements to INOVA Loudoun Hospital.  This shows that competition is good.  After HCA/BRMC announced the partnership with Children’s National Medical Center and it’s specialized pediatric services, INOVA Loudoun quickly opened a pediatric emergency room of their own.  Competition is good for Loudoun County.
